Little girl needs a new home

Wow, people actually read this!!!

Thank you for reading the random thoughts that somehow make up a blog. I guess I have to watch what I say? Anyway, I certainly appreciate you taking time to see the happenings of  the "Dude" with the dolls.

Getting sidetracked for a couple of days.

Image may contain: sky, fire, outdoor, nature and water

First of all, dude and the dolls don't live anywhere near this fire. It's about 30 miles away.  But these fires can get fairly ugly in the hills in Southern California.  Last year a fire that was buring for around 3 weeks got new life with a morning of bad winds and around 8 houses burned down.

I've been working with the local residents of Chino Hills to see if people would foster animals should this fire turn ugly.   And I reached out to the residents of Lake Elsinore but fortunately, so far, things have been very manageable with the fire.   All that stuff on fire in the hills is the Cleveland National Forrest.   It makes me very sad to say that this wasn't an act of nature, but arson.

The mysterious Sabine Esche

From what I can tell, Sabine Esche is a woman.  She is a world-renowned doll artist.   Here's an example of her current work.

I took some time to look over my daughter's American Girl doll and looked at the differences between it and the Sigikid dolls.   I will say something that may get the AG community up in arms, but here it goes.  The AG dolls are slightly cartoonish.  I don't mean that in a negative way. I think AG dolls have a fairly good sense of authenticity,  butt also wants to look like dolls.  Visually, it's something for people to easily process as in "Yes, that's a doll."

The Sabine Esche dolls look more like people.  They are amazingly authentic.  Perhaps, a bit scary in their realism.  I think the realism was a bit too much for my young daughters who didn't care for them at the time.  They didn't look like dolls.  So, perhaps these are dolls for grownups?

Differences between AG and Sigikid Dolls

Size-  My daughters have 18" AG dolls.   You have to keep in mind, for a girl perhaps around age 8, this is a very good size to haul around with them.  23 inch is a bit big for a child to handle.  Then again, these are numbered series dolls, so they really aren't for children.

Skin- The AG dolls have more of a hard plastic feel to them.  The feel is soft but you can tell it's designed to take a washcloth to when a child gets it dirty.   The Sigikid dolls have a very soft, natural rubbber feel to the skin.

Mask- The mask of the face is a lot more authentic on the Sigikid dolls.  The detail is impressive. At first glance they look more like small humans than dolls.

Limited Production- My main intent is to get people off the notion that they've somehow stumbled across some great investment opportunity.    When it comes to collecting anything, you need to know what you're buying.  You have to know your market and have an idea of what the future holds.  With all that being said. it's a crap shoot.  What I can say with absolute certainty is that the only party that has consistently made money on these dolls has been Sigikids.  They charged way too much for them upfront and people like my mom paid it.   So, why didn't these dolls explode in value like everybody thought they would?   There are a few reasons that come to mind. Sigkids isn't a brand name like American Girl here in the states.  The other reason is because these dolls came out in an uptime in the industry for dolls.  And lastly, collecting goes in cyclces.  The good economic cycle we're in right now is a good sign that people may start having extra money to buy things they've always wanted.
Anyway, the lmiited production of the dolls means that they have some value to them, that they aren't simply toys.

Meet Almuth

Well, she's German. Almuth is a girl's name.  She's in good shape other than her hair fell off.  The hair is still good, it just needs to be glued back on , though you may want to find better hair for her.  I have to say that I don't care for her outfit.  This doll would be so nice if it had a litttle TLC.

She's a bargain at $99!
